Jetty provides an Web server and javax.servlet container, plus support for SPDY, Web Sockets, OSGi, JMX, JNDI, JASPI, AJP and many other integrations. These components are open source and available for commercial use and distribution.

full review »I use Jetty for development as Maven plugin and it is great. I see it rather as embeded server than a standalone server. Documentation is scattered and hard to find. Much is on eclipse project site but google still links to codehaus and mortbay.
full review »Best embedded web container. Works with default settings out of the box, but configuring the tricky things needs some minor efforts.
